| Resumen |
Childhood sexual abuse (CS) has been shown to have gender differences: 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys experience some type of sexual assault before the age of 18. CSA victims are often left with permanent scars which continue to affect them through adulthood: unwelcoming schemas, physical and emotional symptoms, and various interpersonal effects. Female victims are more prone to exhibit self blame resulting to low self-worth through adulthood. Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is an evidenced-based treatment that has been used to address the effects of the trauma in female survivors of CSA. CBT prioritizes modifying the cognitions and automatic thoughts associated the trauma of CSA. Gestalt Theory is based around treating the individual as a whole organism--not only h the cognitive but the sensory and emotional modes as well. This proposal will examine the process of using the Developmental Research and Utilization (DRU) model to integrate CBT and Gestalt Theory to address the self-esteem issues of CSA victims.
