Clinical films as training tools: A comparison of REBT and gestalt therapy with children

Compares and contrasts 2 videos, one with V. Oaklander, using Gestalt therapy and the other with R. DiGiuseppe, using Rational-Emotive Behavior therapy (REBT), to explore their utility as training tapes for graduate students. 15 1st-yr doctoral students in a child psychotherapy practicum course rated and evaluated the videos using a 43-item self-report measure. Results indicate that students had positive perceptions of the usefulness of these tapes for training. The students had different evaluations of the therapies' efficacy with children. Most Ss felt that Gestalt therapy would be useful with a wide range of children, while REBT was seen as being more suitable for older children and for brief therapy.
